Final Week
Throughout these past few weeks, I have completed all of the goals I set for myself. I interview a local nail salon and talked with the nail technicians about their work. I learned different nail application types like acrylics, poly gel, and regular gel and I also created a few intricate nail designs on myself and my friends.
My goals never necessarily changed, but after experimenting with each of the different application types, I've come to the conclusion that working with acrylic nails and regular gel polish worked the best and resulted in the best final look. Therefore, I created more acrylic nail looks than anything else.
I really enjoyed spending these last few weeks exploring the world of nails and nail art and I plan to continue honing my skills (and maybe even purchasing some professional-grade materials).
I would definitely recommend this senior project to another student and would also recommend that the school incorporate the wider "passion project" proposals into the more traditional senior projects.
I learned a lot and was able to be creative (which is a great break from English papers and math assessments). I think my dexterity also improved from creating all of those tiny little lines on a small surface!
I think these "passion projects" were a great addition and gave students a chance to branch out and explore something that they usually wouldn't have time to experience.
Below are some other nail looks that I created this week:
The green nails were created using polygel and gel polish:
Emma - I'm so glad that you were able to create such a fun and challenging project for yourself. What a great way to spend this last month at Catlin. I'm wondering how much you'll be using your new skills next year - maybe you can have a little side business in the dorms where you can do nails for the other cadets. :)
